We will be reaching out to families in August to schedule these conferences.
For kindergarten students, WaKids Conferences will take place on September 2nd - 4th, 2026. The first day of school for kinder students will be Tuesday, September 8th. Just like the other grade levels, we will be reaching out to families in August to schedule these conferences.
Pierce County Library Summer Events and Activities
Make summer 2026 a season of reading with Pierce County Library (PCL)!
From June 1 to Aug. 31, PCL is celebrating the art of storytelling through books, events and exciting activities for the whole family in the Summer of Stories Summer Reading Program. Whether your student is in elementary, middle or high school, there is something magical waiting for them at every age.
How it works:
- Get started: It’s free and easy to join the fun! Sign up for Beanstack online or visit your Pierce County Library to pick up a reading log.
- Track your reading: Whether you love stories in books, audiobooks or e-books, keep track of your daily reading. The more stories you explore, the more chances you’ll have to earn rewards (while supplies last)!
- Earn prizes: Reach milestones in your reading journey and unlock fun prizes! Keep reading and earn more prizes! While supplies last.
To learn more about how you can enjoy a Summer of Stories, visit the PCL web page with more information, an event calendar and other resources.

SUN Bucks: Funds for Summer Food for Qualified Families
CPSD families may be eligible to receive funds this summer to help buy food through the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) program called SUN Bucks. The Department of Social and Health Services is partnering with the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction to distribute these benefits.
The SUN Bucks benefits, a one-time payment of $120 per eligible child in each household, will be deposited onto new SUN Bucks cards and mailed beginning in early June. Some children will be automatically eligible for SUN Bucks, while others will need to apply.
Students may be automatically eligible for Summer EBT if they:
- Are enrolled at a school that offers the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or School Breakfast Program (SBP) and qualify through a meal application or Family Income Survey.
- Are between the ages of 8 and 18 and are a member of a household that receives benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Food Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families or State-Funded Assistance.
Families of students who do not qualify automatically can apply by submitting a summer EBT application. Applications will be accepted through Aug. 31. Information about the SUN Bucks program and applications is available at Visit the Sunbucks DSHS page..
FREE CPSD Summer Meals
A balanced diet is essential for students. CPSD provides free summer meals for all children 18 years of age and younger at summer school locations during specified times. Students do not need to be enrolled in summer school to receive summer meals. Meals will be served on a first-come, first-served basis and must be eaten at the school.

NEW: Attendance - EVERY Day Counts
If your student has missed six or more days of school this year, they could be on track to becoming chronically absent. These students face more educational barriers at every grade level. Third graders have difficulty reading, middle schoolers struggle to achieve and high schoolers may fail to graduate.
If your student has a hard time getting out the door in the morning, they may struggle with school refusal. Please take a look at Brown University's resource on tackling school refusal to discover strategies that may make mornings easier for you and your student. Great things happen when they are here!
